European video download service 'Go!View' now live

The fruits of Sony and Sky's partnership (which, scarily, we first reported on just under a year ago) is now finally available to the masses. Go!View allows you to download video content to your PSP across an array of genres for a relatively small fee. Content travels to your PSP via a PC, so Mac users are sadly left out in the cold. Pricing runs on both a subscription model and a pay-per-view model, depending on the content you are viewing.

Movies and "Latest TV" will all be individually priced and include series 1 of Doctor Who (not sure that counts as "latest", seeing as series 4 just finished), season 3 of Lost and Resident Evil: Apocalypse. TV episodes are priced at £1.50/€2.00 with movies at £2.50 - £3.50 (€3.20 - €4.50). Alternatively, there are "Entertainment," "Comedy" and "Sports" subscription packs which cost £5/€7 per month and let you download as much content as you like.

These subscription packs are surprisingly fleshed out with classic 70s Doctor Who, Scrubs, Life On Mars, Red Dwarf and Coupling. The assumption is that the site will be constantly updated with more content, but we notice this fact isn't advertised. It seems like a pretty decent service to grab UK-centric on-the-go video content, but we would love to see it somehow integrated into the EU PSN Store. Might lessen the sting of knowing we're not getting a video-download service until 2009.

E3's greatest trailer: Duke Nukem Trilogy

E3 had some pretty cool trailers this year, but Duke Nukem Trilogy's definitely has to be our favorite. We went in hoping for a little bit of gameplay footage. Something to give an indication of what the game will actually look or play like, perhaps? Instead we sat through four minutes of the worst best trailer ever created. To be fair, we're going to be watching this trailer over and over for the rest of our lives. Whether the games actually come out or not, we're entertained. Enjoy the trailer!

E3 videos now available on the PC Store

The PC Store has been updated today with a nice selection of videos straight from Sony's E3 Press Conference. Along with the first third of the Press Conference itself, you'll find some montage videos showing upcoming PS3 and PSN games. Here's the full release list:
  • Sony E3 Press Conference (Part 1 of 3)
  • PS3 Compilation video
  • PSN 30 Second Sizzle
  • PSN Sizzle Video
  • PlayStation Family video

PS Fanboy Caption Competition: E3 Edition

We'll have the full gallery from PlayStation Blog's meetup soon, but thought you might like to play a little game before then. In the picture above you can see the winner of the Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2 competition at the event, which netted him a Metal Gear Solid 4 Gunmetal Grey PS3. You can also see Jeff Rubenstein, of the PlayStation Blog, but what's he saying?

You tell us! There's no prize for this "competition." Just post as many comments below with your hilarious captions for this image above for a chance to win our ultimate love and respect.

European PC Store update for July 15th

Yeah! It's E3! Time for a special E3 PC Store update! Check out all of these awesome trailers from the Sony Press Conference. Oh wait ... Yeah, it looks like SCEE wasn't informed about E3, but a new episode of Movement is available. That's kind of cool, right? We'd rather have a Resistance Retribution trailer. Here's the full release list:

Valkyria Chronicles is NOT coming to PSP

Remember the PSP game montage at today's Sony Press Conference? Sure you do, it happened only a matter of hours ago. You might have noticed that a video of Valkyria Chronicles, SEGA's strategy RPG, was included in the montage, at which point we literally squeeled with joy. Not only was a potentially great JRPG coming to the PSP, but it looked almost identical to the PS3 version. Too good to be true, right?

Right. Valkyria Chronicles is definitely not in development for the PSP, as confirmed by the PlayStation Blog's Jeff Rubenstein. In what we assume was a major video editing mistake, the game's logo and in-game footage was placed within the montage and ... wasn't noticed during the rehearsal on Sunday? Oh well. Honestly, there's no mystery here, Valkyria Chonricles is not coming to PSP. You'll have to be satisfied with Super Stardust Portable, which is definitely enough to keep us happy.

European PC Store update for July 10th

Not a bad wee update today. Those of you who love mind-bending puzzles will no doubt enjoy Echochrome now that it's finally available for Europeans to purchase. If not, maybe you'll enjoy the second part of episode 1 of Movement. These 8 videos include live performances from a couple more French bands, plus some more of the hosts prancing around France. Here's the full release list:
  • Echochrome full game (£4.99/€7.99)
  • Secret Agent Clank trailer (free)
  • Movement episode 1 part 2 (8 videos)
  • Kung Fu Panda trailer

'Devil May Cry series' listed on Capcom PSP release calendar

We've seen Dante sit proudly atop many things; piles of enemies, thrones and building tops, to name a few. Now we can add "Capcom release calanders" to that list, as Devil May Cry for PSP is currently resting at the top of Capcom Japan's recent and future games list. Sure, there's no release date attached and the game was discussed by Capcom way back in June 2005, but we heard a rumor only last September that the game will definitely release at some point.

We're not in the habit of believing every rumor that's thrown at us, so we'll be waiting for E3 to see if anything is mentioned there. The PSP could definitely do with a few new games to flesh out its 2008 release schedule and Devil May Cry would be a perfect fit.

Woodward theme arrives on PC Store

Yeah, this is today's PC Store update post. Basically, there's nothing here but a single theme, entitled "Woodward." We have no idea what that could be referring to. Once the PC Store is updated, we'll be sure to take a look, but until then this is really all we can tell you. Hopefully it's something interesting, but let's be honest here - how much can one theme entertain us? We would've been happier with no store update at all. Perhaps we should be careful what we wish for ...

European PC Store update for July 3rd

Music and 'extreme' nostalgia hit the European PC Store today. Space Invaders Extreme has been pretty well received, from what we've heard, and now you can try it out for yourselves. We'll have a review of the full game up at some point in the near future. The first episode of Sony Europe's made-for-PSN TV Show Movement is also available to download for free. This is made up of 8 episodes, including four live performances from two Parisian bands. Here's the full release list:
  • Space Invaders Extreme demo
  • Space Invaders Extreme theme
  • Movement episode 1 (8 videos)

Go!Explore dated for July 18th according to Play.com

Europe has had Go!Explore downloadable maps available on the PSN Store since the end of May, but a lot of countries in the region don't even have the hardware yet. Thankfully that looks like it'll be fixed soon as Play.com has the Go!Explore GPS receiver listed on their website with a July 18th release date. There's no telling just how reliable this date is, but we've emailed SCEE to find out.

The site also lists the product's price at £99.99, which seems a bit steep to us. Play.com seem to have tried their best at offering a discount, knocking it down from it's RRP of £104.99 by a massive £5. Ouch. Again, this info is unconfirmed. Should any new info come our way we'll be sure to forward it on to you.

[Thanks Stephen]

American PC Store update for June 26th

America catches up with Europe today (we so rarely get to say that) as Medievil Resurrection becomes available on the PC Store and the PSN Store via PS3. As if to rub it in the faces of their European cousins, it's accompanied by an interview video and wallpaper. Both free, naturally. Here's the full release list:
  • Medievil Resurrection ($17) (also downloadable via PS3)
  • Medievil Resurrection Interview Trailer
  • Medievil Resurrection Wallpaper

PSP will get direct access to the PSN Store this fiscal year

And it's about time too. Sony has revealed today, during a Strategy Meeting in Tokyo, that the PSP will finally be getting direct access to the PSN Store. That means no more having to deal with cables, memory cards or PCs. Good news for Mac lovers. It also means that you'll be able to download content from any WiFi hotspot. Pretty tasty.

There's no real release date, other than "this fiscal year," which could mean anything up to next April. The service was announced at GDC earlier this year, but no timeframe was announced. There's a chance we'll be hearing more about this at E3 next month, so stay tuned for that.

Pursuit Force now available on the European PC Store

Just one new item added to the PC Store today. The original Pursuit Force for the PC is now available to download from both the PC Store and the PSN Store via PS3. Either way, you'll be paying £14.99 (or €19.99) for a classic title.

This comprises the entirety of today's PC Store update for Europe, so don't expect to see anything new going up later. As usual, the American update will be occuring later today, so stay tuned for that.

New cinematic Blood Bowl teaser released

No doubt a whole bunch of you have been itchy to get your hands on something new regarding the upcoming title Blood Bowl. No? Well tough, we've got a newly released video to watch and you're going to sit there and like it. Unless you don't. Obviously there's no gameplay in this teaser trailer but it does a good job of introducing you to the world of Blood Bowl.

If you don't already know, it's a Games Workshop (tabletop gaming) game which sees Humans, Orcs and Elves compete in a brutal version of American Football. There's combat and magic and all sorts of strange stuff you don't see in normal American Football. Sounds like it good make a decent video, but we'll have to wait to see it in action to make any judgments there. Check out the teaser trailer on the Blood Bowl website.
