Slim Down for Summer with That's Fit

European PC Store update for July 24th

Nothing too special this week. Another platinum title hits the store in the form of Gangs Of London, but other than that there's nothing new that's playable. Another Echochrome trailer might push you over the edge, if you've still not grabbed it yet and the PSN exclusive music show Movement continues plodding through Europe. Here's the list:
  • Gangs Of London full game (£14.99/€19.99)
  • Echochrome trailer
  • Movement episode 2 "Munich" part 2 (8 videos)

Hands-on: Super Stardust Portable

What is Super Stardust Portable? Well, it's exactly what it sounds like. It's a PSP version of Super Stardust HD, ready to play anywhere you go. The PSN download-exclusive title is making the big jump from PS3 to PSP, and Housemarque (developers of the original SSHD) have succeeded in creating an authentic Stardust experience for the handheld.

There are obviously going to be two big questions on everyone's mind regarding SSHD. Firstly, the controls. PSP may not have a second analog stick, so how will this work? Well, you simply use the face buttons to shoot in the direction you'd like. It may take a little while to get accostmed to, but SSHD vets will be boosting, bombing and shooting in no time. (ProTip: To do a circular attack with the Gold Melter, press all the face buttons at once.) Secondly, the graphics. While the visuals are obviously toned down from the PS3, the PSP version is able to render a surprising amount of enemies on screen while maintaining a silky smooth framerate. It may not be PSP's best looking game, but for a quick pick-up-and-play title, SSP offers more than enough detail.

Yeah! It's E3! Time for a special E3 PC Store update! Check out all of these awesome trailers from the Sony Press Conference. Oh wait ... Yeah, it looks like SCEE wasn't informed about E3, but a new episode of Movement is available. That's kind of cool, right? We'd rather have a Resistance Retribution trailer. Here's the full release list:

No Gravity officially hitting European PSN Store

Click for high-resolution image.

The popular homebrew title No Gravity is finally getting revamped for official release. No Gravity: The Plague of Mind will release on the PLAYSTATION Store for PSP. Hopefully, this will actually start a new trend of developers moving from the homebrew scene to the official one -- it gives them the opportunity to support the platform, and it gives them to really make a name for themselves as developers.

PS Store video service is now live

As promised, the video service is now live. You can download television shows and movies onto your PSP or PS3. For the PSP, you can log on to the PC Store and hit that "video" icon that's up on top of the screen; it's slightly to the center but leaning more towards the left. You see it? Click that and you can get to the video side of the PS Store. We'll be going in-depth with this new feature very soon, so watch out for our hands-on.

This week's PC Store update is mildly amusing

This week's PC Store update has only one item: a SOCOM Confrontation trailer. That's a trailer for a PS3 game, just in case you PSP-faithful haven't been following news regarding "the big one" out of Sony's gaming brands. That's pretty much it for this week. Hopefully with E3 coming, there will be more goodies in the following week(s).

European PC Store update for July 10th

Not a bad wee update today. Those of you who love mind-bending puzzles will no doubt enjoy Echochrome now that it's finally available for Europeans to purchase. If not, maybe you'll enjoy the second part of episode 1 of Movement. These 8 videos include live performances from a couple more French bands, plus some more of the hosts prancing around France. Here's the full release list:
  • Echochrome full game (£4.99/€7.99)
  • Secret Agent Clank trailer (free)
  • Movement episode 1 part 2 (8 videos)
  • Kung Fu Panda trailer

Woodward theme arrives on PC Store

Yeah, this is today's PC Store update post. Basically, there's nothing here but a single theme, entitled "Woodward." We have no idea what that could be referring to. Once the PC Store is updated, we'll be sure to take a look, but until then this is really all we can tell you. Hopefully it's something interesting, but let's be honest here - how much can one theme entertain us? We would've been happier with no store update at all. Perhaps we should be careful what we wish for ...

European PC Store update for July 3rd

Music and 'extreme' nostalgia hit the European PC Store today. Space Invaders Extreme has been pretty well received, from what we've heard, and now you can try it out for yourselves. We'll have a review of the full game up at some point in the near future. The first episode of Sony Europe's made-for-PSN TV Show Movement is also available to download for free. This is made up of 8 episodes, including four live performances from two Parisian bands. Here's the full release list:
  • Space Invaders Extreme demo
  • Space Invaders Extreme theme
  • Movement episode 1 (8 videos)

American PC Store update for June 26th

America catches up with Europe today (we so rarely get to say that) as Medievil Resurrection becomes available on the PC Store and the PSN Store via PS3. As if to rub it in the faces of their European cousins, it's accompanied by an interview video and wallpaper. Both free, naturally. Here's the full release list:
  • Medievil Resurrection ($17) (also downloadable via PS3)
  • Medievil Resurrection Interview Trailer
  • Medievil Resurrection Wallpaper

Pursuit Force now available on the European PC Store

Just one new item added to the PC Store today. The original Pursuit Force for the PC is now available to download from both the PC Store and the PSN Store via PS3. Either way, you'll be paying £14.99 (or €19.99) for a classic title.

This comprises the entirety of today's PC Store update for Europe, so don't expect to see anything new going up later. As usual, the American update will be occuring later today, so stay tuned for that.

Square Enix to release PS1 classics, begins with Xenogears

According to a NeoGAF posting, this month's Dengeki PlayStation reveals the very first PS1 games Square Enix will revive on the Japanese PSN. The titles will be available for 600 yen each, and will begin releasing in Japan today. There are twelve titles planned, starting with Xenogears. However, there are a number of other titles to be released today, such as Einhander, Astronoka, Rakugaki Showtime, Raystorm and Fighters Impact. While none of these titles feature the words "Final" or "Fantasy" in them, many are considered classics of the PS1 era. Titles like Xenogears can be pretty rare, so these re-releases are of great convenience to those that missed them at first. At only 600 yen each, this is an incredible bargain, especially when one considers the ability to play these downloadables on both the PS3 and on the go with the PSP.

Unfortunately, SCEA and Square Enix USA haven't announced any similar plans to release English language versions of these classics. We hope that they follow suit soon.

[Thanks, Noshino!]

American PC Store releases for June 19th

More Syphon Filter! But, thankfully, not just Syphon Filter. There's also the full game of Gurumin for the bargain price of $15. Pretty tasty, if you ask us. Sadly, there have been no updates to the European store today. Here's the full release list for America:

  • Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure ($14.99) (also downloadable via PS3)
  • Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (also downloadable via PS3)
  • Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror behind the scenes
  • Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror full trailer
  • AST Dew Tour Theme
